Since 1990, full professor of cognitive semantics, new-media studies and cross-cultural communication at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), Paris and head of the R&D lab ESCoM (new Media Lab) of the Foundation “Maison des Sciences de l’Homme” (FMSH), Paris. Author and director of the on line audiovisual archive programme ARA of ESCoM/FMSH.

Education, diploma and awards:

  • 1980: Ph.D. in general linguistics and litterature at the Salzburg University, Austria
  • 1984: Doctorat de Troisième Cycle in “Sciences du Langage” Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris,
  • 1987: Thèse d’Etat es Lettres et Sciences Humaines (“Habilitation”) at the Sorbonne (Univ. of Paris III).
  • 1985: Bronze Medal of CNRS, for the research undertaken in the field of discourse and narrative semiotics.

R&D activities:

Since 1991, scientific management of more than 20 national and international R&D projects in cognitive semantics and semiotics, knowledge representation, ICT and (audiovisual) digital libraries

Research engineer of the R&D lab ESCoM, Foundation “Maison des Sciences de l’Homme” in Paris; computer scientist and responsible developer of the principal multimedia (textual, audiovisual, …) archive management tools of ESCoM; technical coordinator of ESCoM activities within the STREP project DIVAS dedicated to direct research engine of audiovisual information (project having finished successfully at the end of January 2009).
